Latest News and Information...
Good evening to our precious band families,
I hope and pray that you have been safe and been dealing with minimal property damage. Please let us know if there is a need for assistance due to hardships created by this unfortunate weather system. So far, the folks whom I have been in contact with have been fortunate, although inconvenienced.
The plan for our rehearsals this week will be up to our district decisions. I do know that we will not have a Friday Game. This Homecoming and 8th grade night has been postponed to Monday at 6:30. As of right now, we will treat Monday as a regular 4:00 class time to revisit our performance show. As much as we have enjoyed pizza together, I am hoping to feed the students a quick bite before we need to report to the field for pre-game at 6:00.
As of today, I plan to march our show at 1/2 time right after the homecoming ceremony, which should be very concise. This will get us home by approximately 9:30 on Monday, rather than the normal 10:30 or later.
Once again, thank you for your support and flexibility as we evolve plans due to weather and district decisions.
Our show plans for the Saturday Competition at Irmo has not been changed as of today. Our goal for a great 1st competition performance will depend on our ability to rehearse and our focus on the details that we have recently taught.
We will stick together as a strong band family should. I hope to see you all this week, and please let us know of any assistance needed.

October Band Booster Meeting
The date of our October Booster Club meeting has been changed from Tuesday, October 13 to Tuesday, October 20 at 6:00 pm.
Thank you for your understanding!
Fundraiser - Belk Department Store
We have the opportunity, as a Booster Club, to participate in the Belk Charity Day Sale. Great news...for every $5 charity ticket you sell, your child will be credited the $5!! For example, if you sell 10 charity tickets, then you receive $50! Belk gives the total amount to the fundraiser group. There is no limit either on how many you may sell, and Mary Havens has information on how we can sell them at the store as well. Therefore, we have many opportunities to participate in this fundraiser.
Follow this link for full information about this fundraiser and to signup to sell at Belk and help raise money for your student's band fees!
Photographer and band parent, Joe Gray with Distinctive Images Photography LLC, will be taking individual portraits of our band students in their marching band uniforms, with and without their instruments, on September 29th and October 1st during their band classes. All guard members and band members that do not attend Spring Valley High will be photographed after school. Joe and his wife, Beth Gray, will be reviewing previews with the parents for those wishing to order during band rehearsals two weeks later. The dates and times will be posted next week.
2A/4A Volunteers Needed!!
On Saturday, October 31st we are hosting the SCBDA State Finals for 2A/4A class schools. This is our largest fundraiser of the year and we need ALL hands on deck to make the day special for the visiting bands.
We need ALL band families to participate and help out for at least two work shifts, though our students are expected to be there all day. Most of our parent volunteers will be there all day, sun-up until well after sun-down. Please follow this link for each job description and to sign up to help. You may contact our 2A/4A Volunteer Coordinator, Dana Fleming at email@example.com, for more information. Our students will sign up to volunteer during band class.
October Extra Credit Opportunities
Students, click here or check out the new link above under the "Students" tab to learn about some extra credit opportunities for the month of October.
- Student Pick-up After Practice
Our SVHS administration has asked for our help each evening. We have been requested to please not park along the curb while waiting for our children after practice, but to instead please park and wait in the parking spaces in front of the band room. This will help keep traffic flowing, especially when there are multiple events on campus, such as a volleyball game, JV/B team football games, evening club events, and Open House. Thank you for your understanding!!!
