A long, long time ago, in the land of the Vikings there lived a
very musical trumpet dude (not Mr. Allison) by the name of Sir
Hampton Cobb. (Yes, my fellow band members, I talk about THE
CHEESECAKE MAN! You know - the one with the free cheesecake
samples?!) Anyways...Mr. Cobb was the first band director at
Spring Valley. He was also a person who was full of lots of
energy and had some "pep in his step" for he knew that a true
Viking must possess not only good qualities such as tenacity and
the willingness to succeed, but also the Viking spirit.
Mr. Cobb had a wonderful student by the name of Rudi who fit this
exact criteria! He was extremely studious, very self-driven
and motivated to do the best that he could always do.
Everyone wanted to be just like Rudi because he was full of
the true Viking spirit! All of the Vikings looked up to Rudi
because he was always so cheery and full of positive energy!
(I'm sure his karma haze was a bright color!)
"How do you do it Rudi?", the Vikings would ask. "How is it
that you can maintain such love for life and the Viking spirit?
What do you do?"
Rudi responded
with three words..."Bananas and
Band!"
From then on, every Viking who wanted to have the true Viking
spirit joined Mr. Cobb's band and ate bananas! Soon the band
was full of positive energy and super duper school spirit!
All band students had captured the Viking Spirit!!! From
that point on, the land of the Vikings was eternally grateful to
Rudi.
But seriously...
Listed below are some true
facts about Rudi and what he stands for:
Rudi is our band
mascot. He stands for the Viking spirit, tenacity and
the will to succeed. |
Rudi has been a part of
the Viking Band family since Spring Valley's first band
director, Mr. Hampton Cobb. |
Rudi lived in the band
room during the 70's, 80's and early 90's until he was held
hostage. It was then that the Drum Majors were in charge
of taking Rudi home with
them to make sure he was safe. |
Rudi is to be taken care of
ONLY by the drum major(s)!
